Dance artists in Barents - is a three years development project with an aim to strengthen the collaborations within the Barents region.
During the first year focus is on mapping, networking and doing arrangements that aims to establishing a Swedish context for long-term Barents cooperation. The focus during the year is continuing education and there will be venues, workshops and classes open for dancers, choreographers and dance educators related to the Barents region.
The purpose of the project is to create better conditions for freelance dance artists to live and work in northern Sweden. The dance climate needs to be strengthened through exchanges with other colleagues. We find that it is in the meeting with other dance artists in the northern regions of our neighboring countries that we see that we are facing the same challenges and have each other as the closest colleagues. There are few practitioners and great distances to the rest of the country and the world. By creating jobs and collaborations based on artistic creation and the dancer's everyday life with training and inspiration, we maximize the resources and build common long-term contexts for dance artists in the north.
Year two will focus on the creation of dance productions with tours in the four countries.
The project is supported by Region Norrbotten and the Swedish Arts Council.
